High Performance Plus markets two products: an oil
additive and a fuel additive . So far, we've treated six
bikes…a 1994 Honda VFR750 with a Two Brothers pipe and
a Factory jet kit; a 1995 Yamaha YZF600R, totally stock;
a 1994 Kawasaki ZX-7, also stock; a jetted and piped
1989 Yamaha FZR600; a stock 1979 Honda CBX; and finally,
a 1993 KTM 250 dirtbike. All except the VFR and the FZR
showed a substantial 'increase in power as seen on a
Dyno-Jet 150 dynamometer. All bikes were warmed up in
preparation for a baseline run. Next, a half-ounce* of
oil additive was added to the crankcase of each bike.
The engine was run through the gears and re-tested. Then
a *half-ounce of fuel additive was put into the tank and
the bike was again run through the gears. After the
additives were thoroughly distributed, we did
fourth-gear roll-ons to measure rear wheel horsepower.
The increase was startling for the " ZX-7. The
Kawi made 97 horse power at the rear wheel in stock
condition. After treating both oil and fuel, peak power
rose to 102 bhp. The increase wasn't just at the top of
the rpm band, but throughout the operating range, with
the greatest increase seen at 7000 rpm. The ZX had shown
a definite dip in its powerband. but after treatment the
dip turned into a peak and horsepower went up by six.
Owner Chris Lypka said his bike felt stronger
particularly in the 7000-rpm range-as the dyno had
shown.
The next largest increase came from the American
Roadracing test YZF600R, which has always been less than
a stellar performer. The YZF has been on the dyno many
times, and the best it has ever done is 79 bhp quite a
bit lower than the 84-85 bhp that we've seen from other
YZF60ORs. Seat-of-the-pants testing verified that this
Yamaha is simply not in the 90th percentile of its
class. After treatment, the 600 climbed to an all-time
high of 84 bhp. Riding confirms that this is definitely
a happier motor, more willing to rev and making better
power throughout the entire rev range.
Finally, the venerable CBX. This bike has had very
little maintenance over the years, largely because it
never seems to need any. With 37,000 miles on the
odometer, the big Six put out 80 horsepower to the rear
wheel. We chose the CBX primarily to test the oil
additive, because few motors have as many moving parts
and bearing surfaces. Also, the "X" has proven
to be sensitive to the fuel it uses. After treatment, the
24-valve mill made five more ponies from idle to
redline. Riding confirmed that it did seem to run
slightly better. . . . . .As an avid Supersport fan and
competitor, I'd be overjoyed to pour something in my
tank that would give me an edge (particularly if it was
legal!). . . . . -Michael Ross
* The MMI treatment ratio was only 1/2 ounce of oil
treatment per bike and 1/2 ounce of gas additive per
bike. The treatment ratios are not the the treatment
ration recommended by High Performance Plus. The
recommended treatment ratio is 1 ounce of oil additive
per engine and only 1cc of gas additive per gallon of
gas. (added with an eye dropper!).

CONFESSES:
A Look at some fuel additives

I'd been foolin’ myself,
a new big bore kit and a lighter chopper but I still
felt like I was ridin' the same tired 74".. After a
routine bolt tightening and push rod adjustment, Mike at
Sidewinder's Cycle gave me a look I didn't recognize.
His usual business-like serioussness was gone as an
impish almost devilish glow flooded his face.
"I'm putting something in your gas tank,' he
said smiling wickedly. His instructions went like this:
"I'm putting two drops from the eye dropper in each
side of your fat bobs. You're about half full -- go fill
up and about 3 miles later—be careful cuz you're gonna
feel it!”
He said "this is KICK ASS GAS AND IT REALLY
WORKS" . Our friend Chris was listening and broke
into a story about he and Mike the night before and how
his acceleration was out of sight on fourth gear.
"It'll give you four extra horsepower guaranteed I
heard as I started my bike.
Yeah, I nodded and smiled and headed for the gas
station to top off thinking I'd take a short ride for
shits and grins just to please Mike.By the time I got to
the Cactus and 32nd St. intersection, a quite busy one,
the motor was running perceivably smooth with a snappy
note and it didn't try to kill at the light. I snapped
it and began climbing through 3rd gear when pop, pop,
pop - the system seemed to be dying - yet it was only
momentary and I shifted to fourth - rolled on it and WOW
- I had power I hadn't felt since three years before
with 120+ octane aviation fuel. I turned around and
made like a drag racer between 36th St. & 32nd St.
on Cactus, actually wondering when an EVO might wander
by so I could race 'em. With little traffic, I
screamed through the gears feeling torque, power, and a
crisp note humming from my drag pipes
The approach to the Cactus and 32nd St. intersection
caught me off guard - I was accelerating - hit 60 and
shifted to fourth gear - the crescendo building as no
hesitation interrupted this powerful roll on to fourth -
the unworldly horsepower in fourth caused me momentarily
to not want to stop at the intersection. A
wicked tickle drove my being as I for one instant felt
like just not stopping. I had to fight for my senses and
decelerating – found my way home.
First thing I did was call Mike at the shop - he
said, "I know--it happened to us and I wanted
you to share the experience." I asked if this were
legal - like slanimin' your bike fulla crystal - lie
said, "Yup and I got it here at the shop and I got
the oil treatment for you that'll give an extra
two horsepower”Well I’ll tell you the rest of the
story:
I got the oil changed the next day - Mike added the
stuff and I did notice instant improvement over
the horsepower I'd already picked up. And you can
do it yourself! With an EYE DROPPER! Very potent –
very cheep – hell how can a shovel head do without it!
